Categories and Conditions of Program Status in TEAC

Program Status
Term*
Candidate: pursuing initial accreditation after having met the technical eligibility requirements (pre-conditions)
Five years

Initial accreditation: awarded accreditation by TEAC for the first time

Five years

Continuing accreditation: awarded reaccreditation by TEAC

Ten years
New Program accreditation: awarded to programs that qualify for preaccreditation status because they are new or substantially revised programs
Five years
Preaccreditation: awarded to programs whose Inquiry Brief is promising but inconclusive or to new programs
Five years
Provisional accreditation: awarded to programs whose Inquiry Brief meets most but not all of TEAC's Quality Principles
Two years
Denied accreditation: Awarded to programs whose Inquiry Brief does not meet TEAC standards or Quality Principles
Reverts to Candidate Status**

* A new Inquiry Brief must be submitted and audited before the term ends. The length of a term is conditional upon the submission of the required Annual Reports and no adverse actions due to complaints, weak Annual Reports, substantive changes, etc., and may be extended for one year for good cause.
** Provided eligibility requirements (0.1-0.5) are met. If not, the program has no accreditation status with TEAC.
