Generating claims: three steps

1. The process of generating the claims about Quality Principle I should begin with an examination of the statements of the goals, claims, objectives, promises, and standards published in the institution’s catalogs, brochures, state approval/registration reports, and Web sites describing the program’s projected outcomes.

2. If some component of Quality Principle I is not currently part of the program, or is not a component about which the faculty could make a claim, then the faculty members would need to take steps to modify the program, or their instructional emphasis, before they can submit an Inquiry Brief. Alternatively, the faculty might submit an Inquiry Brief Proposal in which they would document, among other things, the steps they propose to take to modify their instructional program.

3. The program faculty should be able to identify at least two measures or categories of evidence associated with each claim.
