Accreditation
Panel's Composition, Terms, and Training
The seven Panel members, appointed by the President
of TEAC, are persons skilled in the evaluation of evidence. They
are meant to represent collectively the following categories
- Teacher educators. Includes faculty, program chairs,
directors, and deans
- Higher education faculty and administrators. Includes
non-education program faculty and campus administrators
- P-12 pracitioners. Includes teachers in the case of
teacher education programs, and other practicing professionals
in the case of other professional preparation programs, clinical
supervisors, administrators, and district-level officials and
specialists
- The public. Includes parents and others interested
in maintaining the highest standards for professional education
programs
- Education policymakers. Includes state education agency
personnel, legislators, legislative staff, members and staff
of state boards of education, and local school board members
- Education policy scholars. Includes those oncerned
with relevant research and policy issues
- TEAC auditors. Includes the lead auditor of the audit
team as an ex-officio non-voting member of the Panel.
- At least one member of the Accreditation Panel will be someone
who is familiar with institutions similar in size, mission,
and context
Terms. About a dozen persons make
up the Accreditation Panel Pool from which a particular panel is
selected. The members of the pool are appointed to an initial 3-year
term and may be reappointed for one additional term of up to three
years. No member serves in the Accreditation Panel pool for more
than 2 consecutive terms (up to a total of 6 years).
Panel training. All members of
the Accreditation Panel Pool receive initial and periodic training.
