Carole Ames

Carole Ames is dean of the College of Education and a professor of educational psychology at Michigan State University. Previously, Ames served as department chair and professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois and acting director of the Institute for Research on Human Development in the College of Applied Life Studies. Her research focuses on the effects of classroom structure, competition and teaching practices on children’s motivation to learn, and on school and family relationships and specific strategies for increasing parental involvement in children’s learning. Ames has a PhD from Purdue University.
